TOKYO > HANEDA > TAKENATSU > NAOSHIMA
Not a great sleep – both woke up in a sweat plus K was the ninja duvet swiper… Up at 7am to checkout at 8am for metros to monorail and Haneda.
Sligth panic over monorail involving hopping on, barging off and squeezing back on…
Nice little flight precluded by K practically gouging my eye out (see mascara finger photo for evidence).
Takenatsu typical rural Asian with no English at port and closed ticket office gave a slight panic but got the 40min ferry to Naoshima at 1240. 50 mins of top deck sunshine and loud Jap school girls later we arrive at the art island.
Discover we have a private minibus to hop on and off between sites as we please.
Impressed with baggage handlers, lovely mature movie star lady at reception made a call to get us a sneaky private tour of Oval tomorrow and suggested the best course for afternoon of museums before they close tomorrow.
Straight on bus to Tadao Ando.
Small and no photos allowed but beautiful detailing of concrete spaces.
Hop on minibus to Chichu.
Longer spent here, creaming over light studies and epic monolithic spaces of Ando cast concrete. A few sneaky illegal photos.
End of afternoon nipping to Lee Ufan (noodle boy).
Ando blatantly chose a questionable artist who would not distract from his architecture.
K let us get the bus back as my back had gone.
Lush shower in wet room, balcony wine, closed terrace bar – filled time discussing merits of marketing (or not) plus how K can make money without lacking morals until…
The best dinner ever. (see menu)
